Harlan C. Amstutz, M.D.

Harlan C. Amstutz, M.D. is the founding director of the Joint Replacement Institute, Professor Emeritus and former Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of California at Los Angeles. Dr. Amstutz is recognized worldwide as a preeminent orthopaedic surgeon and researcher in the field of joint replacement.

Developer of successful shoulder replacement.
Holder of 13 patents.

Recipient of seven national awards for excellence in basic research in hip and knee biomechanics, biomaterials and innovations in joint replacement.
Recipient of the UCLA Alumni Professional Achievement Award.
Editor of Hip Arthroplasty, a widely acclaimed reference book on the subject of hip replacement and reconstruction.
Served as chairman of the Gordon Conference of Biomaterials, President of the North American Hip Society, President of the Orthopaedic Research Society, President of the Association of Bone and Joint Surgeons, President of the Association of Orthopaedic Chairman, President of the American Orthopaedic Association and President of the International Hip Society.
Elected to the Royal College of Surgeons of England as an Honorary Fellow (one of only seven American orthopaedic surgeons so honored).
