Posters: #2265: Ion Levels in Unilateral and Bilateral Hip Resurfacing. (Pat Campbell, et al) Monitoring metal Ion levels in patients who received a hip device with a metal-on-metal bearing is presently the only effective way to assess in vivo wear patterns of these prostheses.
#2015: Cementless Femoral Fixation for Hip Resurfacing. (Pat Campbell, et al) The next generation of hip resurfacing devices will include a fixation of the femoral component without the use of cement but rather a porous coating favoring bone ingrowth. A review of the results from previous attempts with different prosthetic designs and bearing materials.
The staff of JRI is engaged in various research studies, including: improving long term joint replacement durability by selective use of new replacement bearing technology, histological characterization of implant fixation, relationship between wear debris and aseptic loosening.
